“Hacksaw Ridge” is Mel Gibson’s latest film glorifying suffering and canonizing a hero. The gore and realism of the battle scenes may not be tolerable for all viewers, but if you think you can hack it, this film is certainly worth your time.

Española Walmart Supercenter Reopens Wednesday

ESPANOLA  The Walmart Supercenter in Española is scheduled to reopen to customers at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16.
 
As anticipated, remodeling work will continue after the store reopens. Festival Of Trees Round 2 Runs Through Friday

This year was the largest silent auction for the Festival of Trees and Monday will kick off round two.

Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization and Champions of Youth Ambitions reports there are 20 items still left for bid remaining from the Festival of Trees.

The items will be available Monday through Friday, during regular business hours with final bids sealed on Friday. On Tuesday, the program may also announce a special item available by raffle.

The Los Alamos High School Hilltalkers invite the community to enjoy a taste of Krispy Kreme Donuts and to help raise funds for the Hilltalkers’ future transportation and travel needs.

Members of the Hilltalkers are selling these famous glazed donuts for $10 per dozen. Rooney And Soran Join LACF Board Of Directors

Dr. Cynthia J. Rooney and Patrick Soran have joined the Board of Directors of the Los Alamos Community Foundation.

Rooney is the chief executive officer for UNM-Los Alamos. She has been involved in higher education for more than 25 years teaching at the College of William and Mary, Xavier University, and UNM-Albuquerque, before coming to UNM-LA. Her Ph.D. is in accounting, with a minor in organizational behavior, from the University of Tennessee. Driver Rams Several Espanola Police Vehicles

ESPANOLA – Espanola police officers responded to a stolen vehicle call around 2 p.m., Nov. 12. Officers located the stolen vehicle and a pursuit ensued on N.M. 503. Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department deputies joined in the pursuit, and eventually stop sticks were deployed.

The driver of the stolen vehicle rammed several police vehicles in his attempt to get away, and his actions ultimately resulted in shots being fired by officers with the Espanola Police Department and Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department.
