Rooney And Soran Join LACF Board Of Directors

LACF News:

Dr. Cynthia J. Rooney and Patrick Soran have joined the Board of Directors of the Los Alamos Community Foundation.

Rooney is the chief executive officer for UNM-Los Alamos. She has been involved in higher education for more than 25 years teaching at the College of William and Mary, Xavier University, and UNM-Albuquerque, before coming to UNM-LA. Her Ph.D. is in accounting, with a minor in organizational behavior, from the University of Tennessee. Rooney serves as treasurer of the United Way of Northern New Mexico Board and also is a member of the Los Alamos Commerce and Economic Development Corporation Board. She and her husband, Brian Rooney, moved to Los Alamos in 1998 with their two daughters, Kate and Allison.

Patrick Soran

Soran has been a long-time resident of Los Alamos. He retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1999 as deputy division leader of the Weapons Division (X) and has been involved in several local non-profits in northern New Mexico, including being on the board of directors and president of the Crisis Center of northern New Mexico. In 1996 he co-founded the Los Alamos Lunch Buddies Program and after getting 125 adult volunteers, he turned the program over to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico. In 1997 he founded the Diane Soran Foundation and spent several years helping to restore and refurbish the Tot Lots of Los Alamos. In 2014, Soran and his wife Ann Hayes were chairpersons of the United Way of Northern New Mexico fundraising campaign. Soran is an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos, having played Santa for many years and managing the July 4th fireworks display. Soran also is a retired US Navy captain.

Soran and Rooney join David Izraelevitz (president), Don Cobb (vice president) and Ken Milder (secretary/treasurer) as board members of the LACF.
