Driver Rams Several Espanola Police Vehicles

EPD News:

ESPANOLA – Espanola police officers responded to a stolen vehicle call around 2 p.m., Nov. 12. Officers located the stolen vehicle and a pursuit ensued on N.M. 503. Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department deputies joined in the pursuit, and eventually stop sticks were deployed.

The driver of the stolen vehicle rammed several police vehicles in his attempt to get away, and his actions ultimately resulted in shots being fired by officers with the Espanola Police Department and Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect and his passenger were not hit. The pursuit ended near Chimayo.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Richard Borrego and the passenger was identified as Candance Montoya. Both were taken into custody by the Espanola Police Department. 

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is investigating the officer involved shooting portion of this incident. The names of the officers involved will not be released until all interviews are conducted.
