Wednesday’s Downpour Spurs Back Road Flash Flood
Looking down from Omega Bridge, a grader and front end loader work on West Road near the Ice Rink to clear debris from the flash flood Wednesday evening. The creek coming down Los Alamos Canyon from the Reservoir becomes a raging torrent that uses the roadway as a streambed in flash-flood conditions. Clean up from that flash flood got underway quickly on N.M. 501 (Back Road) following Wednesday’s downpour. Local Man Arrested in Montana for Crimes Against Sons in Los Alamos

Los Alamos resident Thomas A. Rahn was arrested at 8:42 p.m., Friday July 6 at a Homewood Suites in Bozeman, Mont., by the Bozeman Montana Police Department as a result of a warrant issued by the Los Alamos Police Department.
Rahn, 54, is charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor under 13 years of age.

Pet Pangaea’s Offices Vandalized Overnight
Police are on the hunt for the person or persons who threw a rock through the plate glass window of Pet Pangaea’s offices in the former Quest Diagnostic space near Nectar and 15th Street sometime overnight. Owner Cyndi Wells said an employee discovered the broken window and found a rock inside the office area at about 11:30 a.m. today. No one had been at the offices before that time and the window wasn’t broken when the offices closed Tuesday evening, Wells said. Thursday’s DWI Checkpoint Nets Zero Arrests
As part of its crackdown on motorists driving in Los Alamos County under the influence of alcohol or drugs, local police officers set up a DWI Checkpoint Thursday evening by the airport near the entrance to town. The Los Alamos Police Department reported that 174 vehicles were checked between 7-11 p.m., during which two field sobriety tests were conducted. In the last few months, there have been two crashes on Diamond Drive that occurred when a right turning motorist crossed the new bike lanes in close proximity to a bicyclist riding in the bike lane.
