That’s the message emergency managers are sharing with people all over New Mexico and beyond during the month of September.
 
September is National Preparedness Month and the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Region 6 Office is urging everyone to take steps to make a plan and know what to do during an emergency.
 
Whether you deal with the possible threats of flooding, wildfires, hurricanes or power outages, the preparedness steps to take are the same.

PEEC Day Trip To Explore Copper Mine Sept. 12

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is offering a rare chance to visit the abandoned Nacimiento Copper Mine 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 12, near Cuba, N.M.
 
The trip, led by local geology expert Patrick Rowe, will be fun and hands-on for both adults and children. Participants will start at the nature center, carpool to the side, and explore the area, with ample chances to find beautiful specimens such as petrified wood.

The Los Alamos Little Theatre presents the classic play “Harvey” Sept. 11-26 at the Performing Arts Center. The play is performed at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Sept. 13.

Little Forest Playschool is holding its annual Fall Fiesta 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. 
 
Everyone in the community is invited to join in on the family fun. There will be a dunk tank, bubble pit, bounce houses, alpine slide, goats and ponies, face painting, food, games and prizes.
