Flash Flood Warning

A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. today for northern Los Alamos … extreme southeastern Rio Arriba … northwestern Santa Fe … and east central Sandoval counties.

At 5:24 p.m., the National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to indicate a moderate rain continuing over the Las Conchas burn scar … but intensity was trending down.

However … very heavy downpours had occurred over the northern half of the burn scar and rapid runoff and flash flooding is expected to continue.

Santa Fe National Forest Lifts Fire Restrictions

Effective at 8 a.m., Thursday July 12, the Santa Fe National Forest will go from Stage 2 Fire Restrictions to no fire restrictions forest-wide, to include the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

Current monsoon rains and favorable weather forecasts are allowing for the complete lifting of fire restrictions.

Pet Pangaea’s Offices Vandalized Overnight

Police are on the hunt for the person or persons who threw a rock through the plate glass window of Pet Pangaea’s offices in the former Quest Diagnostic space near Nectar and 15th Street sometime overnight. Owner Cyndi Wells said an employee discovered the broken window and found a rock inside the office area at about 11:30 a.m. today. No one had been at the offices before that time and the window wasn’t broken when the offices closed Tuesday evening, Wells said. Thursday’s DWI Checkpoint Nets Zero Arrests

As part of its crackdown on motorists driving in Los Alamos County under the influence of alcohol or drugs, local police officers set up a DWI Checkpoint Thursday evening by the airport near the entrance to town. The Los Alamos Police Department reported that 174 vehicles were checked between 7-11 p.m., during which two field sobriety tests were conducted. In the last few months, there have been two crashes on Diamond Drive that occurred when a right turning motorist crossed the new bike lanes in close proximity to a bicyclist riding in the bike lane.
