DPU Releases Performance Report

DPU News:

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) released its Performance Report for the 4th Quarter of Fiscal Year 2012 describing DPU’s activities April 1 through June 30, 2012.

The performance report details:

  • DPU’s CIP construction project progress;
  • LA Scores measures;
  • Financial status of operations;
  • Commodity consumption levels (gas, water, electricity, wastewater collection);
  • Energy and water conservation; and
  • Public relations’ outreach activities.

Community Invited to Kiwanis ‘Autumn in Tuscany’ Wine Dinner Sept. 21

KIWANIS News:

The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos is hosting its second annual wine dinner fundraiser.

The event will start with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Dixie Girl Restaurant, 1789 Central Ave.

“Autumn in Tuscany” is the theme for the wine dinner. Included in the elegant event is a five-course gourmet meal featuring paired wines uniquely matched to each course. A knowledgeable Sommelier will be on hand to describe each pairing.

YMCA Selects Sylvan Argo for Teen Center Director

The Family YMCA has hired Sylvan Argo as its new director for the Los Alamos Teen Center.

Argo will fill the position left vacant by former director Michelangelo Lobato who has accepted a counseling position at Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock.

Lobato served on the four-panel committee that reviewed 20 applicants before selecting Argo.

Saturday is Kiwanis Aluminum Collection Day

KIWANIS News:

Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos will be collecting aluminum at Sullivan Field. Kiwanis buys the aluminum from the public at 30 cents per pound or 35 cents per pound if over hundred pounds.

Kiwanis recycles the collected aluminum and proceeds go to their scholarship fund. Just look for the blue tent on Saturday at Sullivan Field.

The Atomic City Road Runners pace race season opened Tuesday on the Canyon Rim Trail with 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 mile distances available.
 
Elizabeth Turner and Amanda Mercer were the top predictors at 35 seconds off their predicted time as well as fastest female three mile finishers.

The community is invited to the annual Breakfast with Santa, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos, with support from Del Norte Credit Union, from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center, 1101 Bathtub Row.

The breakfast is free. In return, attendees are requested to donate either non-perishable food items or money.

Food collected will be used by LA Cares to feed local families in need. Money donated will be used for the Kiwanis/CYFD Foster Children Christmas Party. Read More
