Council Approves 2 Percent Raise For County Officials

Los Alamos County Council voted 6-0 to approve a 2 percent increase to the salary of County Administrator Harry Burgess, County Attorney Rebecca Ehler and Department of Public Utilities Manager John Arrowsmith. Council Vice Chair Izraelevitz was absent. Three Central New Mexico Correctional Facility (CNMCF) officers are recovering after being attacked Monday night during dinner clean up.

Thirteen inmates were assigned to the kitchen area of CNMCF to clean up from dinner service. Sgt. Manuel Romero saw one of the inmates, Andrew Hernandez, break the rules and confronted the inmate about his behavior. That’s when another offender, David Armijo, rushed the officer, kicked him in the stomach and hit him in the face.

Breaking News: Authorities Search Los Alamos Home Regarding Child Pornography Investigation

Breaking News:

Los Alamos Police in conjunction with agents from the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office executed a search warrant this morning on a home in Los Alamos in relation to reported child pornography activities.

Det. Sgt. Oliver Morris told the Los Alamos Daily Post a few moments ago that his department is working two cases involving the “sexual exploitation of a child.”

FBI: Sending Hoax Letter Is Serious Crime

FBI News:

The FBI, U.S. Postal inspectors and state and local authorities are investigating two suspicious letters that were received at New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez’s office in Santa Fe Monday, July 8.

One letter contained a white powder substance. The other was unopened. At this point, field tests have been negative. Additional testing will be conducted at local laboratories.

Other responding agencies included New Mexico State Police, Santa Fe Fire Department and 64th Civil Support Team.

Fire Restrictions Relaxed Across Los Alamos County

COUNTY News:

Officials in the Los Alamos Fire Department announced this morning that the County will relax fire restrictions from Stage II to Stage I, effective at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 10.

The County has been under Stage II restrictions since June 25 due to extreme fire danger. 

 The relaxation of fire restrictions is based upon:

  • Local weather improvement, including:

o    Recent regular rainfall

o    The local seven-day forecast, which reflects continued rain and cloud cover
