New Mexico Governor Attending Arizona Firefighters Memorial Today

Gov. Susana Martinez
Santa Fe – Gov. Susana Martinez will attend Today’s memorial service for 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots killed last Sunday when a wildfire overran them on a mountainside northwest of Phoenix.
It was the deadliest day for U.S. fire crews since 9/11. The service will take place at 11 a.m. at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, Ariz.
“It’s a great honor to represent New Mexico to pay our respects to these American heroes,” Martinez said. “This is a reminder that this is very dangerous work, and we have thousands of men and women on the front lines in New Mexico today. We must always keep our firefighters in our prayers and hope for their safe return to their friends and loved ones.”

Organizers said the memorial is a way for firefighters, families and the community to mourn and honor firefighters from Prescott, who died June 30 battling the Yarnell Hill wildfire (about 20 miles south of Prescott.)
