The 20/20 Campaign Recognizes Eight High Growth Companies in Northern New Mexico

Eight companies were announced on Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Spirit of Innovation event in Santa Fe as part of the 20/20 Campaign to celebrate small businesses in Northern New Mexico. The event will be held at the Scottish Rite Temple from 6 to 8 p.m. The 20/20 Campaign aims to recognize and support 20 high-growth companies by the year 2020 that are becoming major employers in Northern New Mexico. Together the companies in the 2012 class employ around 270 people and have combined revenues of over $59 million.

New State Settlement Proposal for San Juan Generating Station Could Lay Foundation for “Third Alternative” Agreement

PNM Resources’ New Mexico utility, PNM, acknowledges that a state settlement proposal released today to address regional haze at San Juan Generating Station appears to be an important step toward an alternative to the current federal plan.

Udall: Nearly $18 Million for Wireless in Rural Areas

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tom Udall announced Wednesday that three telecommunications companies will receive nearly $18 million to provide advanced mobile service to rural areas in Central and Southeastern New Mexico that currently lack 3G or 4G wireless access.

NB3 Foundation Gets $$$ for Childhood Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes Prevention

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tom Udall announced Monday that New Mexico-based Notah Begay III (NB3) Foundation will receive the first of two $293,513 grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to combat childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes at San Felipe Pueblo.

Espanola Ranger District to Start Santa Fe Watershed Prescribed Burn

The Espanola Ranger District anticipates initiating a prescribed burn Tuesday, Oct. 2 approximately three miles east of Santa Fe. Total acreage to be treated over two days is 207 acres and will occur as conditions permit. Smoke will likely be seen from Santa Fe, Pecos, Jemez, Tesuque, Los Alamos, Bernalillo, Albuquerque, and Espanola.  The treatments are being implemented to help protect the municipal water supply by reducing hazardous fuels, as well as help sustain watershed, forest and wildlife health.

NMDOT Mill & Overlay on NM502 Starts Tuesday

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 2, NM502 (Main Hill Road) to Los Alamos will be closed weekdays and Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. while the NMDOT conducts a milling and overlay pavement rehabilitation project. Work will occur from east of East Gate Drive to the Bayo Canyon access road. Access to the East Gate Industrial Park will be maintained from the townsite.

N.M. 502 to Los Alamos Closing for Maintenance Beginning Oct. 2

N.M. 502 to Los Alamos will close beginning Oct. 2 for road work.

The affected highway extends from Mile Marker 4 to Mile Marker 6 down the hill.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) advises all motorists to take the Truck Route to Los Alamos and Los Alamos National Laboratory while road work is in progress.

Crews will be milling out two and a half inches of existing pavement and repaving the road with new asphalt material to help rehabilitate the roadway.

Valles Caldera Prescribed Burn Continues

VALLES CALDERA TRUST News:

Jemez Springs – The Valles Caldera Trust Tuesday continued a prescribed burn project on 360 acres south of New Mexico Highway 4 near Mile Marker 30. 

The project began with 70 acres burned Monday and will continue through Wednesday. Smoke from the burn periodically drifts across the highway and reduces visibility.

To ensure the safety of the public, fire managers are using pilot cars to escort vehicles through the burn area when conditions warrant.

Motorists may experience short delays when driving through the burn area.
