Valles Caldera Trust Identifies Visitor Center Site / Final Environmental Impact Statement Released

Jemez Springs The Valles Caldera Trust (Trust) has released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the proposed Public Access and Use Plan (PAUP.)

The plan aims to expand visitor access while preserving the natural and cultural resources of the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

In June of this year, the Trust opened a 60-day public comment period on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) that featured six public access alternatives.

A total of 125 written comments from agencies, pueblos, organizations and individuals were submitted.

After covering the lives of drug addicts and prostitutes in America and the struggle of Afghan rebels fighting the Soviets – including a stint as a prisoner of war – Santa Fe-based photojournalist Tony O’Brien turned to Christ in the Desert Monastery in Abiquiu to restore his spirit.

Palace’s Front Door to Close for Renovation Project

Visitors can still visit via the History Museum and Palace Courtyard

Santa Fe—A long-awaited maintenance project to refinish or replace some of the floors in the entryway of the 400-year-old Palace of the Governors will temporarily inconvenience visitors accustomed to entering themuseum complex through its doors.

As of Friday Nov. 2, the Palace doors facing the Santa Fe Plaza are closed as workers begin deconstruction in the entry and front-desk area.

Letter to the Editor: Furious at Icons on Ballots

I just returned home from voting early here in my home town of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

I was furious to discover that the ballot had “icons” in front of the presidential candidates – not their party icons, but icons selected by the New Mexico Secretary of State:

1. Obama had a distorted eagle

2. Romney had the American Flag

When I called our local County Clerk, they said the local government has no control over how the ballot looks or what is on it and that this ballot format is being used by all precincts throughout the state.
