Santa Fe National Forest Offices Closed Labor Day

SFNF News:

The Santa Fe National Forest (Forest) Supervisor’s Office and all Ranger District Offices will close Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.

Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Forest personnel expect a large number of visitors over the holiday weekend. If you plan to visit, please follow “Leave No Trace” principles:

  • Plan ahead and prepare
  • Travel and camp on durable surfaces
  • Dispose of waste properly
  • Leave what you find
  • Minimize campfire impacts
  • Respect wildlife

Major Portion Of NM 4 / NM 502 Road Construction Wrapping Up, Paint Crews Plan Finishing Touches

NNSA/DOE News:

Road construction of N.M. 502 eastbound is just about complete, ending lane closures on the eastbound side for the duration of the road reconstruction project.

Crews will be adding a second layer of striping along eastbound N.M. 502 one day this week, and one day next week, during off-peak traffic hours.

On the westbound side, crews have completed the lower full-depth reconstruction and are at the mill and fill stage of the project. There will be alternating lane closures on the west side, but commuters will have two lanes open for the morning drive to Los Alamos. Work on the westbound Read More

Los Amigos de Valles Caldera Offers Wildlife-Viewing And Backcountry Van Tours At National Preserve

SANTA FE  Los Amigos de Valles Caldera, the official Friends Group and Cooperating Association for the Valles Caldera National Preserve, will begin offering a series of 16 guided wildlife viewing and backcountry van tours through the preserve 4-8 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 15 to Oct. 20.
 
These tours are made possible through the efforts of Los Amigos to enhance visitor experience on the preserve.

Staff for U.S. Sen. Tom Udall will host an information session 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the University of New Mexico for high school students and recent graduates interested in applying to the U.S. military service academies.

The FBI is looking for a man who robbed an Albuquerque bank Thursday, Aug. 23, and is suspected of recently robbing three other banks in the city.
 
First Convenience Bank, inside the Walmart on 2550 Coors Blvd. NW, was robbed at approximately 2:39 p.m. The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his 30s, approximately 5’5” to 5’6” tall, with short dark hair and tattoos on his left arm.
