Quidditch Comes to New Mexico This Weekend

Quidditch (the game in the Harry Potter books) comes to New Mexico this weekend.

The West by Southwest Showcase will feature a number of university and mercenary (club) teams in a regional competition sponsored by the IQA, the International Quidditch Association.

Caroline Wurden from Los Alamos will be in New Mexico to be a referee for the games. She is a member of Cal Quidditch (Berkeley) and a former co-captain.

More recently, Wurden has served as a referee. She helped develop referee materials for the IQA and is also a trainer for new refs.

Not only do I guarantee you’ll be creeped out, this is a play that makes you think, and the production is outstanding.

“The Woman in Black,” adapted from the book by Susan Hill by Stephen Mallatratt, premiered in 1987 and has been running steadily on the London stage since 1989.

Palace’s Front Door to Close for Renovation Project

Visitors can still visit via the History Museum and Palace Courtyard

Santa Fe—A long-awaited maintenance project to refinish or replace some of the floors in the entryway of the 400-year-old Palace of the Governors will temporarily inconvenience visitors accustomed to entering themuseum complex through its doors.

As of Friday Nov. 2, the Palace doors facing the Santa Fe Plaza are closed as workers begin deconstruction in the entry and front-desk area.

The Shire of Bryngolau (Shining Hill in Welsh) hosted a pas d’arms tournament and games event Oct. 19 at the Posse Lodge in Los Alamos.

The local group is currently an “Incipient Shire” while they demonstrate their ability to function as a full Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) branch.

The Shire of Bryngolau encompasses Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties and has more than 20 members.
