This week we are opening Planes: Fire and Rescue, Begin Again, and Jersey Boys. We will hold Planet of the Apes, and Tammy. Transformers,and Earth to Echo will end this Thursday.

We had planned on opening Sex Tape with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal this weekend but Sony gave us the run-around again and told us we didn’t make the cut. It’s not every day that your hometown is featured in a major television series. Starting July 27, with the premiere of “Manhattan” on WGN America, Los Alamos will be.

YMCA’s July 4th Kids’ Parade 10 a.m. at Ashley Pond

Children who want to participate in the annual Family YMCA July 4th Kids’ Parade should meet at 10 a.m., at “the elephant” at Ashley Pond.

The Parade begins at 11 a.m. and will take the route of:

  • East on Central to 20th Street; turn left.
  • Follow 20th Street around Fuller Lodge and down Bathtub Row to Nectar. Turn Right.

The White Rock Artist Market will feature local artists and crafters 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 5, at the White Rock Visitor Center.

4th of July Schedule of Events at Overlook Park

The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos has announced the schedule of events for the 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks Show at Overlook Park in White Rock.

The day’s events will commence at 2 p.m. Friday with music, bouncy toys, skydiving and more. Atomic City Transit will provide free transportation to the park. A suggested donation of $5 per person (not including kids ages 12 and under) will be requested by Kiwanis members at the entry gates to Overlook Park.

‘Get the Brewery Open!’ Party Draws Huge Crowd

A massive crowd attended the ‘Get the Brewery Open! Campaign Party’ hosted by the Los Alamos Beer Co-op Saturday night in Central Park Square. The Beer Co-op signed a lease last week with Philip Kunsberg, owner and developer of Central Park Square to lease the space formerly occupied by the Canyon Bar & Grill at 160 Central Park Square. Animated films seem to be coming back with a vengeance and success this year. I’ve only been reviewing movies for about a year, but my eyes have always been on the ratings. I’ve stated before that Rotten Tomatoes is my comparison point for my own ratings, a digital wall of other opinions. Never have I seen a non-documentary film reach almost one hundred percent until How to Train Your Dragon hit theaters in 2010.
