The Los Alamos Opera Guild presents its annual Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Singers Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at Fuller Lodge in downtown Los Alamos. Light refreshments will be served.
The Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentices will perform a short program: Baritone Josh Conyers, Soprano Heather Phillps and accompanist Glenn Lewis.
The Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program for singers is internationally recognized as one of the finest programs of its type. On average approximately 40 apprentice singers are chosen each year from a competitive applicant pool. Those who are selected will participate in a rigorous program of training and performances, which includes supporting roles in mainstage operas, starring in two evenings of apprentice scenes, vocal coachings, auditions and many other activities.
The Apprentice Singer Program has been helping young singers establish careers since 1957. The 2014-2015 season will see former Santa Fe apprentices in principal roles at The Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Royal Opera House, La Scala, Opéra National de Paris, San Francisco Opera and other prominent companies.
The Los Alamos Opera Guild is the oldest of six chapter guilds throughout the state of New Mexico that make up The Guilds of The Santa Fe Opera, Inc. The Guilds offer a variety of programs, both social and educational. They are focused on assisting The Sante Fe Opera on bringing Opera to their communities, especially to the upcoming generations, with events like the Apprentice Concerts and “Opera on the Rocks” at Bandelier. Guild members work behind the scenes on Family Nights at the Opera, the Spring Tour throughout the state plus host the preview dinners and Opera Insiders and much more.
This concert is free to Guild members and $7 to non members. All Guild proceeds go toward The Santa Fe Opera Education and Community Programs. Basic guild membership is $35 per year and attendees may join the Guild at the July 20 event.
