This Week at the Reel Deal

Reel Deal Theater

This week we are opening Planes: Fire and Rescue, Begin Again, and Jersey Boys. We will hold Planet of the Apes, and Tammy. Transformers, and Earth to Echo will end this Thursday.

We had planned on opening Sex Tape with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal this weekend but Sony gave us the run-around again and told us we didn’t make the cut. Truthfully I don’t know if it’s a good film or not but now at least we have a chance to see how it opens and what the critics say. If it doesn’t live up to the hoopla we won’t show it.

We originally didn’t make the cut with Jersey Boys either but we finally got a print and will open it this Friday. Everyone I’ve talked to who’s seen it said it’s a great, poignant, film and the critics didn’t score it high enough. It will only be a one-week run at the Reel Deal so don’t miss it.

Begin Again: The latest film from writer-director John Carney (Once), Begin Again is a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together.

Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray, and a reeling, lovelorn Gretta is left on her own.

Her world takes a turn for the better whenDan (Mark Ruffalo), a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon her performing on an East Village stage and is immediately captivated by her raw talent. From this chance encounter emerges an enchanting portrait of a mutually transformative collaboration, set to the soundtrack of a summer in New York City.

Begin Again is produced and financed by Exclusive Media and produced by Anthony Bregman, Tobin Armbrust and Judd Apatow. (C) Weinstein

Jersey Boys: Clint Eastwood’s big screen version of the Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of the four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic `60s rock group The Four Seasons. Their trials and triumphs are accompanied by the hit songs that influenced a generation, and are now being embraced by a new generation of fans through the stage musical.(c) Warner Bros.

Planes: Fire and Rescue serves as a dramatic improvement over the original, introducing thrilling action sequences backed by actual stakes and an unexpected emotional dimension, all on top of upgraded animation and a greater emphasis on character. Drew Taylor/ The Playlist
