My journey to teaching was circuitous. Fifteen years ago, I entered the profession via journalism and then the United States Peace Corps. 

Already packing a bachelor’s degree, I added a master’s in education as I settled into a second-grade public school classroom in New Mexico.

PED: Free Family Literacy Academy Starting Sept. 13

SANTA FE — The Public Education Department (PED) is offering New Mexico families and caregivers an opportunity to learn strategies to help their children improve literacy skills at home.

The Family Literacy Academy will be offered virtually in three 1.5 hour sessions Sept. 13, Oct. 11 and Nov. 8 in English. The Family Literacy Academy also will be offered virtually in Spanish Sept. 15, Oct. 13 and Nov. 10.

LANL: Sisterhood Of Science – 2022 Summer Physics Camp

The sixth annual Summer Physics Camp for Young Women gave 40 students from New Mexico and beyond hands-on science experience and mentorship, thanks to 104 volunteer presenters, 75 percent of whom were women.
