ESPAÑOLA — Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation is accepting nominations for community members from Northern New Mexico to serve on the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF)  Advisory Committee.

2022 Española Valley High School Graduate Melaki Jones Selected For National Jackie Robinson Scholarship

JRF Scholarship News:

2022 Española Valley High School (EVHS) graduate Melaki Jones has been selected for the national Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship – a four-year, $22,800 scholarship.

The scholarship also includes all-expense paid travel to participate in the JRF’s mentoring/leadership conference in New York City, internship, permanent job placement and an international service trip.

Of the more than 3,000 students who applied for the prestigious scholarship, 70 were selected.

Retired Educators In New Mexico Now Eligible To Return To Work Without Losing Pension Benefits

SANTA FE — New Mexico’s 48,000 retired K-12 and higher education educators now have the opportunity to return to the classroom without losing their retirement benefits thanks to a new law enacted by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham this year.

Retired teachers and college faculty receiving pension benefits from the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board can now return to teaching for an additional three years within a New Mexico public school district, college, or university without forfeiting their retirement benefits.

LAPS Reminder About Preschool Program For 2022-23

There are still openings in the Los Alamos Public Schools Preschool Program for the 2022-2023 school year. Preschool classes will be available at all elementary sites. In addition, the program will add another 3Y classroom at Mountain Elementary, and an additional 4Y classroom at Chamisa Elementary.

LAPS is making adjustments to the Pre-K schedule next year. Beginning in August, students in the preschool program for 4-year-olds will attend school four days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students will not attend school on Wednesdays. LAPS is working with the YMCA Read More

Registration Opens For Family Y’s Earth Service Crew Environmental Education And Volunteer Service Program

Registration is open for The Family YMCA’s Earth Service Crew (YESC) environmental education and volunteer service program for middle-school aged youth.

YESC meets 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Thursdays, from June 20-July 29. Registration, on a weekly basis, closes when spaces are filled.
