Fire Relief Center Moved To New Mexico Highlands Univ.

The Fire Relief Center once located at the old Memorial Middle School gymnasium was moved to Sala de Madrid on the New Mexico Highlands University campus at the end of July.

The Center will continue to provide hot meals twice a day at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and a range of services, including assistance with resources, accessing government relief, and navigating FEMA, available to those affected by the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fires and the subsequent flooding.

JJAB: Thanks For Another Successful School Supply Drive!

Thanks to the generous support of the community, Los Alamos JJAB was able to yet again support the school supply needs for its clients, reaching 59 students with enough left over for two substantial deliveries to the counselors of two elementary schools.

This year was a bit more difficult because all the prices were up, but the JJAB team managed to cross off almost every item on the lists they were given. SANTA FE — New Mexico History Museum (NMHM) is excited to share that Fray Angélico Chávez History Library (FACHL) has completed the work associated with a grant from Recordings at Risk, a program conducted by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), with funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The $15,119 grant enabled FACHL to digitize more than 200 unique audio recordings made by award winning photographer and cinematographer John S. Candelario.  Read More

AG Balderas Announces Education Department’s Approval Of $3.9 Billion Group Discharge For 208,000 Borrowers Who Attended ITT Technical Institute

ALBUQUERQUE — Today, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas announces the U.S. Department of Education will discharge all remaining federal student loans that borrowers received to attend ITT Technical Institute (ITT) from Jan. 1, 2005, through its closure in Sept. 2016.

The decision, which follows Departmental findings based on extensive internal records, testimony from ITT managers and recruiters, and first-hand accounts from borrowers, will result in 208,000 borrowers receiving $3.9 billion in full loan discharges.
