Los Alamos and the Northern New Mexico region took a significant hit today when Gov. Susana Martinez vetoed Senate Bill 17.

Dubbed the Lab Tax Stabilization Bill, SB17 was introduced by Senators Carlos R. Cisneros and Richard C. Martinez and Dist. 42 Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard. Its purpose was to stabilize gross receipts tax revenues received from prime contractors at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories.

Los Alamos Daily Post Public Safety Reporter Maire O’Neill is participating in the 14th Annual Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Albuquerque Division Citizens Academy.

The Citizens Academy is a nine-week program designed to promote a more informed community by educating community representatives including media about the mission, resources and jurisdiction of the FBI. Classes meet in the evening at the FBI field office in Albuquerque.

La Cueva Road Closed For Emergency Repairs

Starting immediately, La Cueva will be closed for a period of two days to conduct emergency repairs to a sanitary sewer line. Courtesy/DPU

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has contracted with Paul Parker Construction to conduct emergency repairs to a sanitary sewer line that crosses La Cueva Street just north of Barranca Road. 

Starting immediately, La Cueva will be closed for a period of two days at the section of road where excavation is underway. Local traffic will be rerouted on Cascabel Street to access La Cueva properties north of the closure.
