In tough economic times, people scale back. They tighten their belts and trim away anything unnecessary. At first glance it may appear that being frugal is no fun; however, a closer look reveals a far different picture.

Minor Injuries Reported in Morning Bicycle Accident

Staff report

Minor injuries were reported in an accident at about 8 a.m. today near Diamond Drive and Sandia Street.

A bicyclist was riding south on Diamond Drive when a motorist heading northbound on Diamond Drive turned left on to Sandia Street and failed to yield the right of way to the bicyclist.

The Los Alamos Fire Department treated the bicyclist for minor injuries at the scene. The Bicyclist declined transport to Los Alamos Medical Center.

Katy Korkos Gets Pierced

Throwing caution to the wind, Member Services Coordinator Katy Korkos of the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce surprised one of her business members Monday as she entered their business and asked to be pierced. Korkos hadn’t had her ears pierced as a child but after receiving a pair of MJ Oref designed earrings Monday, made the decision to get it done. Community Invited to Submit Letters of Interest for Council Vacancy

Los Alamos County Council Chair Sharon Stover announced during Tuesday night’s Council meeting that beginning today, Council will accept letters of interest from community members who would like to be considered to fill the unexpired term of Councilor Ron Selvage, who resigned last week.

His term will expire Dec. 31, 2014.
