Dr. Marcos Cavalcante will present a diverse program including works of Villa-Lobos, Antonio Lauro and Turina. Cavacante is a tenured associate professor at Northern New Mexico College and has the Marcos Cavacante’s Guitar Studio in Los Alamos. He has a Doctorate of Music, Classical Guitar Literature and Performance from Indiana University at Bloomington.

Lunch with a Leader: The League of Women Voters “Lunch with a Leader” at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 in the 3rd floor meeting room at Mesa Public Library. Speakers include Tom Nagawiecki, Los Alamos Environmental Services Specialist and Sandra West, Outreach Coordinator at the Los Alamos Cooperative Market. Nagawiecki will talk about the glass drop-off recycling program that is coming soon to Los Alamos. West will talk about the Co-op’s new TerraCycle recycling program. The Los Alamos Co-op will cater the talk. Order either a whole sandwich, or a box lunch of half a sandwich with soup or salad. All orders include chips and a cookie. You can also bring your own lunch. All members of the community are invited to attend any League event. Membership is not required.
Silver Threads: The third annual Silver Threads Arts and Craft Show 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the White Rock Senior Center. Applications are available at the WRSC desk. Eight foot tables available for a $25 donation each. The show includes Hand Made Hats, Decorated Silverware, Wall Art, Jewelry and more.

Monica Witt has worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory for 10 years in the environmental and energy management fields. She has a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies and is the Utilities & Institutional Facilities Energy Manager. She is responsible for implementing projects to reduce energy and water to meet the Laboratory’s Sustainability goals.
Monica will discuss the federal Sustainability requirements and what LANL is working on to meet important energy, water, and greenhouse gas reduction goals.
This program is co-sponsored by the Sierra Club and the Los Alamos Sustainable Energy Network (LASE Network).
We are excited to start off the Fall Season with Monica Witt. A former member of the Sustainability Board of Los Alamos County, she is well known to many of us and will give us valuable insight into the sustainability activity at the Lab.
