The recent letter by a prominent local Democrat (“Sign Laws are for Everyone,” Los Alamos Daily Post, Saturday, Nov. 1) exemplifies several facets of today’s political climate that turns so many people off. The letter asserts that “Republicans” were campaigning illegally near the High School late last Tuesday afternoon and had done so previously. It also asserts citations were issued. New Mexico Sate Police will conduct Sobriety Checkpoints, Saturation Patrols and Registration, Insurance and Drivers’ License Checkpoints in all New Mexico counties throughout November.

Our efforts continue to show a significant reduction in alcohol related fatalities. This is attributed to the continued media attention and intensive advertising. These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about drinking and driving. People are choosing to not drink and drive. XiNu Chapter Hosts 27th Annual Arts And Crafts Fair At Crossroads Nov. 8

The XiNu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority is hosting a Craft Fair Saturday, Nov. 8 at Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road, Los Alamos, 2014. 

The Fair runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and more than 40 artists from Northern New Mexico will be selling their art.

iNu sponsors this Craft Fair to allow them to give the proceeds to charity. This is the 27th Craft Fair held by the XiNu chapter. There will be a raffle with prizes being donated by the artists who are participating and a handmade quilt made by one of the XiNu sisters.

Kaylie Burk, a junior at Los Alamos High School, has been nominated to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders on Nov. 14, 15 and 16 in Washington, D.C.

The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields. The purpose of this event is to honor, inspire, motivate and direct the top students in the country who aspire to be physicians or medical scientists, to stay true to their dream and, after the event, to provide a path, plan and resources to help them reach their goal.
