The Democratic Party of Los Alamos will hold its 5th Annual JFK Dinner 5:30-8 p.m., Sunday, June 5 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. The event is catered by the Blue Window Bistro.

This year’s honoree is Karyl Ann Armbruster. Armbruster is many things: a long-time Los Alamos Public Schools educator, union leader, super-volunteer, loyal friend and current Public Education Commissioner. Letter To The Editor: Glad County Halts Weed Spraying

I am happy to read that the weed spraying has been stopped, as this poses a danger to humans and animals.

Last year, I was walking our senior dog behind Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock where he ate some grass that was growing along the schoolyard fence. As I walked him there again the next day, I noticed that all the weeds were dead, which signaled to me that someone must have sprayed them.

The days that followed were extremely scary for us, as our dog developed severe diarrhea, which lasted several days. Thank goodness, he survived. Read More

Ahlers will graduate the United States Coast Guard Academy this month.

The Los Alamos Master Gardeners invites the community to their Demonstration Garden Fair, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11.

Children are invited to come and participate in the activities especially for them. For a Butterfly Hunt, children will be given a list of questions. Each of the butterflies, scattered throughout the garden, answers one of the questions. A second activity will be seed planting in cups that the child will take home. Every child is a winner with prizes for participating.
