Los Alamos Police Department Conducts Traffic Enforcement Operation Through October

LAPD News:
 
Continuing through the month of October, the Los Alamos Police Department will conduct traffic enforcement, focusing on accident related violations.

Officers also will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and conduct random DWI checkpoints throughout the County during this time frame.

The public can help reduce the risk of vehicle crashes by adhering to posted speed limit signs, allowing enough room between them and the vehicle they are following and driving with caution when roadways are wet.

Taste Of Knowledge Event Is Sold Out; Online Silent Auction Is Open To Everyone

The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation has announced that its popular fundraiser, A Taste of Knowledge, has sold out for the third year in a row.
 
The LAPS Foundation partners with Pig + Fig Café to put on the wine and food pairing event, which raises money for all Los Alamos Public Schools. It’s not too late to participate, however. This year the silent auction is all online, and so even non-event goers can place their bids on auction items at www.tok.givesmart.com.

Bandelier Fee Free Day Sunday Celebrates National Park Service 103rd Birthday

Entrance fees at Bandelier National Monument will be waived Aug. 25 to celebrate the National Park Service’s 103rd birthday! 

Every year, Bandelier National Monument gets to celebrate two birthdays: the park was authorized Feb. 11, 1916, and the National Park Service was established the same year Aug. 25, now known as Founders Day.

On The Job In Los Alamos: Paver Work On Diamond

On the job in Los Alamos is a crew working Thursday afternoon on the milling project near the 37th Street intersection on Diamond Drive. The south lane was stripped and a truck sprayed oil on the stripped lane. A large truck then poured asphalt into the main paver shown here, which heats and pours it on top of the oil. ALBUQUERQUE The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) will participate in Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Saturation Saturday, Aug. 24.
 
NMSP is partnering with the New Mexico Department of Transportation, MADD and other law enforcement agencies in an effort to end DWI. Los Alamos Tennis Club Hosts Williams Tournament

The Los Alamos Tennis Club hosted the 3rd annual Joel Williams Tournament this past weekend at Urban Park Tennis Courts. The tournament has been played continually for almost 60 years and draws some of the best players from Northern New Mexico. Thirty-two players signed up to participate in this year’s event including high school, adults and both male and female. The tournament offers a full slate of events for the participants.
