Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) scientist Travis Sjostrom has been selected for a 2021 John Dawson Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics Research from the American Physical Society (APS).

Sjostrom is just one of seven scientists to receive the national award this year.

NCRTD Resumes Service On 290 Edgewood Route Aug. 9

RTD News:

The North Central Regional Transit District’s RTD Blue Bus will resume regular route and scheduled service on the 290 Edgewood route Monday, Aug. 9.

The route had been temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 290 Edgewood route provides weekday fare-free commuter bus service from Edgewood, Moriarty, Stanley and Galisteo to points throughout the City of Santa Fe.

DALA Presents ‘The Dark Year’ At Duane Smith Saturday

When Dance Arts Los Alamos’s (DALA) “Nutcracker on the Hill” concluded in 2019 – it did something unusual. The show ended on a cliffhanger.

The villainous Rat Queen had conquered the Land of Sweets and J. Robert Oppenheimer was trapped in this magical land. Want to learn what happens next? DALA is telling a bit more of the story in its film, “The Dark Year,” which will premiere at 7 p.m. Saturday at Duane Smith Auditorium.

Francisco (Frank) Javier Garcia passed away in Albuquerque, NM on July 30, 2021.

Frank was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on September 3, 1933.

Frank is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ramona, sons, Frank (Debra), Phil, daughter Michelle, daughter-in-law Carolyn, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Bert who passed in 2020.

Rehabilitation Work Completed; Canyon Rim Trail Reopens

COUNTY News:

GM Emulsion has completed the trail surface rehabilitation work on the Canyon Rim Trail from Knecht Street to the current trail termini at the Trail Underpass Construction Site and the trail has been reopened.

This work filled cracks and placed a new surface layer to extend the life of the trail pavement.

Users of the trail are reminded that there is no current access to N.M. 502 at the eastern termini of the trail while the Underpass is under construction.

The extents of the active work area are clearly marked, and no public access is allowed within this area at any time for safety reasons. Read More
