SANTA FE ― The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has published its draft revised land management plan and draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) in the Federal Register, initiating the formal 90-day public comment period, which ends Nov. 7, 2019.
 
The revised land management plan will guide management of 1.6 million acres across six counties in northern New Mexico for the next 10 to 15 years. WASHINGTON, D.C. ― Friday, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Representatives Ben Ray Luján, Deb Haaland and Xochitl Torres Small announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded more than $6 million in funding to New Mexico to combat the opioid epidemic in communities across the state.
 
The funding will go toward treatment, prevention, recovery, and research efforts throughout New Mexico.

SFNF Update: Conejos Fire Grows To 500 Acres

SANTA FE ― Favorable conditions Thursday gave fire crews the opportunity to complete an additional 150 acres of firing operations.
 
Through the weekend, as weather conditions allow, fire crews will continue to look for opportunities to burn heavy concentrations of dead and down fuels within the planned 800-acre Conejos Fire perimeter.

SFNF Update: Cueva Fire Grows To 5 Acres

SANTA FE – Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) have determined that the lightning-caused Cueva Fire on the Coyote Ranger District will be managed to improve forest conditions and reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire in the future.

Today and through the weekend fire crews will take advantage of favorable weather conditions to implement firing operations to bring positive benefits to the landscape.
