PEEC: Haaland To Speak On Green New Deal Aug. 21

The community is invited to hear U.S. Rep. Deb Haaland discuss why she thinks the Green New Deal is a needed bold solution to protect the future of communities, the country and planet at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21 at the Los Alamos Nature Center.
 
This event will be held outside of the center and guests are encouraged to arrive early to get seats. The talk is free to attend and no advance registration is required. The Los Alamos Nature Center is at 2600 Canyon Road and is operated by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC).

Palace Of The Governors Offers Guided Tours During Final Stage Of Building Rehabilitation This Fall

SANTA FE Beginning this fall, the New Mexico History Museum will offer guided tours of the Palace of the Governors during breaks in construction activity.

 

The tours will allow a rare look at this historic building as it undergoes preservation treatment in support of its continued use as a public museum.

Blue-Green Algae Closes Access To Abiquiu Lake

ABIQUIU LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announced today that effective immediately the Cerrito Day-Use Recreation Area, including the boat ramp and the swim beach, are closed after tests showed the presence of a blue-green algae bloom in the reservoir.
 
The closure will last until levels no longer pose an increased threat to humans and animals.
 
Closure signs are posted at the lake’s public access points.
 
The lake is still open for camping

A month long FBI-led operation to identify and arrest sex traffickers and recover child victims has resulted in dozens of arrests across the country and the identification and recovery of more than 100 juveniles.

A man charged federally with aggravated sexual abuse is being sought for allegedly absconding from pre-trial release in Albuquerque.
 
Jan Jay Moolenijzer’s last known location was Tucson, Ariz. The FBI arrested Moolenijzer Sept. 8, 2018 in Albuquerque, after a federal criminal complaint was filed. He was indicted March 27, 2019 on four counts of aggravated sexual abuse.
