State Police Checkpoints, Saturation Patrols Across State

NMSP News:

State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols; and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during June 2026.

We are bringing awareness to these events to reduce impaired driving-related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising. 

These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.

SANTA FE — Firefighters on the Santa Fe National Forest continue to actively suppress the Tom Springs Wildfire, located approximately 10 miles northwest of the Village of Pecos in the Pecos Canyon area. No significant spread occurred overnight.

The lightning-caused wildfire, first reported on May 29, is now at 3.82 acres following updated infrared and on-the-ground size assessments gathered yesterday afternoon.

FBI: Three Inmates Charged In Brutal Assault On Correction Officer At Doña Ana County Detention Center Face 20 Years

ALBUQUERQUE — Three inmates accused of violently attacking a correction officer assisting the U.S. Marshals Service at the Doña Ana County Detention Center have been charged federally after the officer was beaten unconscious and tased during a 22-second assault.

County: Construction To Begin June 1 On Phase 3 Of Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County has announced that construction will begin Monday, June 1, on Phase 3 of the Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project (JMFPP).

This final phase will involve heavy machinery moving large equipment for the construction of four water booster stations.

The County asks motorists to avoid using Camp May Road from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

County Offers Cooling Stations To Combat Extreme Heat

As New Mexico enters the summer months and periods of extreme heat, Los Alamos County offers cooling stations throughout the community.

These designated spaces are equipped with air conditioning or water and offer residents and visitors a safe place to seek relief and help prevent heat-related illnesses.

Be Forewarned … the signs of N.M. 4 work beginning 5/28/26. It actually started today 5/29/26. The state is repaving. That’s great! HOWEVER, do they EVER plan for a temporary lane? What about Emergency Response events?

With only one road in and out of White Rock (without going through the Jemez, or possessing a LANL badge), this is not just inconvenient, it is dangerous and not well planned for.

FBI: Fruitland Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal Drunk Driving Crash

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — A Fruitland man pleaded guilty to second degree murder after driving drunk at 107 miles per hour and crashing into an oncoming vehicle, killing the driver.

According to court documents, Dec. 9, 2024, Timothy Begay, 39, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was driving drunk when he crossed the center line and hit a car driving the opposite direction, killing the driver. At the time of the crash, Begay was driving 107 MPH. Medical records showed that he has a blood alcohol level of .239.

Begay pleaded guilty to second degree murder and faces up 15 years in prison at sentencing. Read More
