July 9 at 4:04 p.m. / A 43-year-old Espanola woman reported that she is the victim of fraud on Trinity Drive. The estimated loss is less than $2,500.

Former NMSU Student Sentenced In Internet Threat Case To Shoot Up University

ALBUQUERQUE — Zachary Milton Hess, 20, of Las Cruces was sentenced Wednesday afternoon in federal court to five years of probation for his conviction on a misdemeanor charge of being an accessory after the fact to the interstate transmission of an extortionate communication.
 
Hess also was ordered to pay $77,934 in restitution to the university.

The Los Alamos Municipal Court Clerk’s Office will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 21.

New Mexico State Police: Warrant Fee Scam Alert

The New Mexico State Police is getting numerous reports from citizens advising they received a phone call and informed they had a warrant for their arrest and were required to pay over the phone a warrant fee to clear the arrest. 
 
The return phone number of the caller in each instance was displayed as being a New Mexico State Police District office.

Utilities Drop Box Vandalized – Payments Stolen

News Alert:

Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) warn customers that payments made over the weekend in the payment drop box were stolen. 

The payment drop box located at the County Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave., was vandalized Saturday. Placed outside near the mailboxes, the drop box was a convenient way for customers to make payments after hours.

Los Alamos County Man Contracts Tularemia

NMDOH News:

The New Mexico Department of Health confirmed today that a 51-year-old Los Alamos man was infected with tularemia.

The case was confirmed at the Department’s Scientific Laboratory Division. The man was hospitalized but has recovered and gone home. There also have been 33 cases of tularemia this year in pet dogs and cats from Los Alamos, Bernalillo, Santa Fe, Taos and Torrance counties.
