New Mexico Environment Department Provides Financing To United Parcel Service To Replace 16 Package Cars

ALBUQUERQUE — The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) awarded United Parcel Service (UPS) $473,222 in grant funding to replace 16 delivery vehicles with low pollution compressed natural gas (CNG) delivery vehicles.

“New Mexico has helped school districts and nonprofit organizations reduce their climate-warming emissions from their vehicle fleets,” Environment Secretary James Kenney said. “Now, UPS is following suit by retiring diesel-fueled vehicles and replacing them with cleaner vehicles.”

DOUGLAS — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service translocated a Mexican gray wolf family back to the wild in southeastern Arizona on Monday, a move conservation groups are celebrating as a successful step in lobo recovery.

The wolves, a female called “Llave” (#1828) and her mate, “Wonder” (#2774) were both originally born in the wild in the Mexican Wolf Experimental Population Area.

Crews Working On Second Water Break In Quemazon

COUNTY News:

Water crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) are working on an emergency water leak on Quemazon again today within the same area as where a water valve failed last week. Water is off for houses in the immediate vicinity of the break and is expected to remain off until at least 4 p.m. today.

Traffic controls are in place for the work zone, which runs along Quemazon between Tranquilo and Corona. This area is closed to through traffic for the duration of the repair and cleanup. Residents may detour at Corona and Tranquilo. Drivers are asked to exercise caution near Read More

I read the Op/Ed by Steve Tobin of the BPU with interest. I am glad to see the BPU and DPW thinking about issues and costs of green energy production. I have some observations and questions about specifics and about general societal attempts to reduce CO2 emissions.

Environmental Services Offers Two Dedicated Reuse Centers

Did you know that Los Alamos County disposes of approximately 15,000 tons of trash yearly? Many valuable items like decorations, BBQ grills and exercise equipment could find a new life instead of ending up in a landfill.
