Discoveries Action Team Meets June 21

COUNTY News:

The next monthly meeting of the Discoveries Action Team is Thursday, June 21 in the Pajarito Room of Fuller Lodge. Participants will meet  11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and continue discussing ideas suggested by the Place-Making and Place-Marketing subgroups.

Free lunch will be served. The meeting will be facilitated by the Idea Group, the consultant for implementation of the Brand Action Plan.

New Mexico Tech Reps. Visit Los Alamos June 18

New Mexico Tech representatives will be visiting Los Alamos the week of June 18. The purpose of the visit is to increase collaboration in both education and research.

Special Session To Fill Council Vacancy 6 p.m. Today

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Council is holding a special session at 6 p.m. today in Council Chambers to discuss and possibly appoint one of six applicants to fill a vacancy on Council.

Residents who submitted a “letter of interest” by the May 31 deadline to fill the vacancy after the resignation of Councilor James Chrobocinski earlier in May include Morris B. Pongratz, Brady Burke, David M. North, Laura A. Crotzer, Aaron Walker and K. Michael Cleveland.

New Mexico’s role in developing the first atomic bomb will be explored through a series of presentations organized by Recursos, a Santa Fe-based educational organization, starting June 14.

The programs coincide with the Santa Fe Opera’s presentation of Doctor Atomic this summer, as well as related events and exhibits sponsored by the New Mexico History Museum and other organizations during 2018-19.

Pajarito Mountain Remains Open For Bike And Hike Uplifts Saturdays And Sundays Through Oct. 28

PAJARITO MOUNTAIN News:

Pajarito Mountain is open for bike and hike uplifts every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 28.

Pajarito’s trails are open Monday through Friday for biking and hiking without the chairlift. Rentals from Rocky Mountain are available and include helmet and armor. To save 10 percent buy online.

The Cafe also is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am-2pm.

Los Alamos Nature Center Is Looking For Volunteers

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center, the non-profit that operates the Los Alamos Nature Center, is seeking volunteers.
 
The nature center is short-staffed for volunteers in the following areas:
 
  • Docents for the gift shop;
  • Assistants for educational programs;
  • Outreach;
  • Data-entry; and
  • Gardeners.
 
Volunteers are matched with jobs based on their interest and skillsets and scheduling is flexible to meet individual needs.
