On Feb. 25, 2013 the Animal Protection Voters (APV) of New Mexico held Animal Lobby Day at the state capital.

APVNM is the first statewide animal advocacy organization in the country.

Los Alamos School Officials Express Sadness Over Student’s Death

 

UPDATE: Los Alamos Police Commander Randy Foster explained that the 16-year-old boy’s mother called police after he would not unlock his bedroom door. Police responded, meeting the boy’s mother in the front yard of her White Rock home. The officers entered the home and used a screwdriver to open the door to the boy’s bedroom where they found him dead from a gunshot wound. LAPD continues to investigate, Foster said.

I read (Superintendent) Gene Schmidt’s recent letter with some concern.

 
On the one hand, of course we should keep our children safe in school.
 
But on the other hand, we must continually ask of our policies: At what cost? And what is the real goal? (It is: help children build themselves into independent, successful adults.)

In the past two weeks, three middle school students were disciplined for bringing knives to school.

LANL Foundation Names New Executive Director for Northwest New Mexico First Born® Program

The Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation announced its new executive director for the Northwest New Mexico First Born® Program at a press conference Tuesday at the State Capitol.

Regina Huffman, former director of the Family Infant Toddler Program (FIT) in Gallup, has been named executive director.

The Los Alamos Community Winds is pleased to announce the 2013 Music-Filled Life Scholarship.

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter(softened)
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup dark molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon each of cinnamon and ginger
1/2 teaspoon clove1/4 teaspoon salt
White Sugar for dipping
