HIGH FLYERS News:

The Los Alamos High Flyers Girls Gymnastics Team ended its competitive season Feb. 24 with an impressive showing at the women’s Level 3-4 Junior Olympic state championships.

In total, the 12-member team brought home 32 medals and trophies, including two 1st place, nine 2nd place and 13 3rd place awards.

In Level 4 competition, Amaya Coblentz took 1st place on bars with a score of 9.10. She took 3rd on floor exercise and placed 3rd all-around with an accumulated score of 35.50.

Teammate Sarah Worley took 3rd placed on beam and was 6th all-around in the competition.

In the older age category, Alexandra Hinckley received a third-place medal for her bar routine and placed 8th in all-around competition.

Making their first appearance at the state championships, nine girls competed for High Flyers in the Level 3 division. In the 9-year-old age group, Bella Garcia placed 2nd all-around with a combined score of 35.775. Her score of 9.15 earned her 1st place on beam. She placed 2nd on vault with a score of 9.325.

In the same age group, Ella Gaffney placed 3rd on beam with a score of 8.95 and 7th all-around.

Brittany Nguyen took 2nd place all-around in the 10-year-old age division with a combined score of 34.725. Brittany also took the 2nd place medal on both beam and bars and 3rd on vault.

Teammate Sofi Vandenkieboom who took 2nd on floor exercise and 3rd on beam finished the competition in 3rd place all-around.

Lily Houghteling took second on vault with a score of 9.05 and placed 5th all-around.

Sarina Borden took 4th place all-around after netting 3rd place medals on bars and floor exercise.

Jillian Puckett was 5th overall, placing second on beam with a score of 8.80 and third on both vault and floor exercise. Heidi Johnson placed 6th all-around.

Competing in the 11-year-old age group, Emme Mooday placed fourth all-around with a combined score of 34.85. She placed 2nd on vault with an impressive score of 9.4 and received the 3rd place medal on beam.

The state championships were sponsored by the New Mexico branch of USA Gymnastics, the governing organization for all Junior Olympic gymnastics competition in the United States.

Its program focuses on safe, progressive skills development with competition available for girls in Levels 1-10.
