Los Alamos High School English instructor Michelle Holland was selected by editors of Pasatiempo as the first place winner in the poem category written by adults in their recent contest.
Her entry entitled, “It Wasn’t the Laundry on the Line,” was featured in the Dec. 28, 2012, edition of The New Mexican’s weekly magazine of arts, entertainment and culture.
Holland said she rarely enters contests, but entered this one to encourage her students to publish their work.
Holland recently appeared in the video series “Poetry Matters,” a collaborative project between New Mexico CultureNet and Santa Fe Community College.
At that filming, she performed her poem, “Threads,” published in her second collection of poetry, “Chaos Theory” (Sin Fronteras Press 2009.)
