In White Rock we can get booze at three different places: Smith’s, the gas stations and Bandelier Grill with a meal.

I wonder if White Rock is the only community in New Mexico that doesn’t support a local bar?

We need some where that we can have a beer (not a six pack) and quiet conversation without four largescreen tv screens blaring the latest game at maximum volume.

The Los Alamos Jewish Center proudly presents the 2013 Community Seder at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center

The community is invited to join the LAJC celebrate the second night of Passover with a great story, great food, socializing and Afikomen prizes for young children.

Every year children outgrow their soccer clothes and shoes and now there is a local opportunity to donate those items to children in Uganda.

The “Soccer for Uganda” drive is underway in Los Alamos and White Rock to collect used soccer clothes and shoes along with used soccer balls, cleats, shin guards, soccer socks and jerseys.   

      Los Alamos Drop-off: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road.

The Los Alamos School Board will hold its Regularl School Board Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 in the Los Alamos High School Speech Theatre.

Governor Calls Out Rep. Garcia Richard

This morning on the KRSN AM 1490 morning show, Gov. Susana Martinez accused Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard of breaking her campaign promise to voters in Los Alamos with regard to driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants (House Bill 606.)

Garcia Richard is on record during her campaign for favoring the repeal of the current law, which grants driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, saying “It’s a bad law that needs to be changed.”

It appears Garcia Richard was trying to do just that through her vote yesterday. Read More

Hypnotherapist Kelly McLoughlin believes that the mind can do amazing things.

“For years I’ve been studying the power of the mind. Your thoughts truly create your reality,: she said. “The subconscious is so powerful it can heal the body as well as the mind.”

McLoughlin opened her Los Alamos hypnotherapy office in January. “It’s going very well,” she said. “I’m very busy.”

Volunteer Opportunities on Santa Fe National Forest

SFNF News:

The Santa Fe National Forest is offering spring trail projects to volunteers to build new sections of trail.

Specific projects include construction of winding trails and retaining walls. There are six days from which to choose and there is no experience required.

The trail projects will be hosted on the Dead Dog Trail, located west of Santa Fe in the Caja del Rio for the following dates from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day:

LAMC Lobby Shop Has New Look

Auxilian Teri Nixon has brought a new look to the Los Alamos Medical Center’s Lobby Shop. The Hospital Lobby Shop is run by the hospital’s Auxiliary, who put the shop’s profits into their Community Health Aid Fund. The Fund offers scholarships and educational materials for classes and workshops to LAMC’s hospital staff, and indigent medical and pharmacy aid to those who qualify. Existing home sales edged up in January and February both in Los Alamos and across the nation.

According to a recent report from the National Association of Realtors, the U.S. could be seeing a sellers’ market developing.

Here in Los Alamos County, 30 homes sold in January and February 2013. That’s up from 17 homes sold in January and February 2012.
