Memphis is anxious to be adopted as soon as possible so she can share her happiness with a new owner. She would enjoy the opportunity to get in a bit of running as well.

Memphis and other adoptable pets are available at the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter, 226 East Road, (505) 662-8179.

How the Hen House Turns: Hunting With Turkey One

How the Hen House Turns: Turkeys are not Chickens
Column by Carolyn A. (Cary) Neeper, Ph. D.

Turkey One, we called her Turkey, arrived from the feed store with one other turkey poult and three chicken chicks. She didn’t bond with the latter three, not even after the second turkey poult refused to live.

They do that. Some newly hatched turkeys give up. It doesn’t make sense after all that work getting out of the shell. Some simply refuse to eat. Websites tell me that commercial turkey raisers run colored beads through the feed so they will be stimulated to “hunt.”

When our two new turkey Read More

Letter to the Editor: 501c4 Organizations!

501c4 Organizations!
By THURMAN TALLEY
Los Alamos

I believe the IRS should withdraw all tax exempt status from any organization which endorses any political candidate.

This should extend to other categories in addition to this particular 501c organization group, including religious and social organizations!

No 501c organization should be allowed to make contributions to PACs or to candidates. Certainly political action groups are allowed to do whatever they want but they should not be tax exempt. Any tax exempt 501c organization should make public their financial contributors!
