New Mexico’s Congressional Delegation sent the following letter Wednesday to U.S. Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Department of Health & Human Services regarding the state’s behavioral health crisis:
Dear Secretary Sebelius,
As you are aware, the State of New Mexico is in the process of investigating allegations of fraud against 15 behavioral health providers that offer Medicaid services and has suspended payments to those organizations. Opera Alta will perform Amahl and the Night Visitors at 6:15 p.m. at the Juniper Campground Amphitheater. This opera was originally created by the composer Gian Carlo Menotti for NBC making it the first opera written entirely for television. The event is an opportunity for those not familiar with opera, as well as for opera enthusiasts to enjoy listening in a special venue.

Daycare staff arriving to work Monday at White Rock United Methodist Church discovered vandals had defaced the church with graffiti of a graphic and satanic nature.

Gas Leak at Timber Ridge and Trinity Repaired

A natural gas leak at Timber Ridge and Trinity Drive was repaired Tuesday. The report was made at approximately 3 p.m. to the Department of Public Utilities Gas, Water and Sewer (GWS) division.
Crews were on site in minutes and by 3:45 p.m. had the breach isolated. The repair was completed by approximately 6:15 p.m. with no interruption of natural gas service to area residents.

The Los Alamos Police Department is collecting donations for the family of LAPD Corporal Alfred Roybal, who passed away unexpectedly last week while on a camping trip with his family in northern New Mexico.

Update: Chuchu the lost dog has been found and reunited with his family!

Chuchu the dog is lost. He was adopted from the Animal Shelter early last week and escaped from his adopter’s home near Urban Park.
He hasn’t been found after thorough searches of the neighborhood and could possibly be trying to find his way back to his former home on North Mesa.
Chuchu is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, medium-sized with a short brown coat. He is probably frightened and not likely to seek safety with humans, but hopefully, hunger and thirst could help him make an exception of that.
