Los Alamos Man Discovers 9-inch Mushroom in Yard

Chuck Tallman discovered the quintessential toadstool – Amanita muscaria – growing in his yard on La Cueva in Los Alamos. Commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita, Amanita muscaria is a poisonous fungus. Tallman said the largest Amanita muscaria growing in his yard measures 9-inches across, adding that the Amanita muscaria is known for its hallucinogenic properties. Photo by Chuck Tallman
