Major Fun Underway At Today’s 2014 LAYL Wild Day
Today is the Los Alamos Youth Leadership’s 2014 Wild Day LA event at Los Alamos High School. LAYL hosts Wild Day LA once a year for Kindergarten through 6th grade students and includes art, outdoor activities, team challenges and spending time with youth mentors. LAYL is a youth leadership program for high school students, which begins in August and ends in April of each year. Students build relationships with family and friends, and increase their confidence. Teams design, plan and implement projects that benefit the community throughout the year. Handsberry is undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian cancer.

Great Conversations is an afternoon of delicious appetizers and desserts and conversations led by 12 interesting and knowledgeable leaders. All of the conversation leaders are locally or regionally known.

Sue WattsSue Watts has spent a good part of her adult life working as a volunteer for organizations ranging from Girl Scouts of America to an urban community center in Birmingham, Ala., to Stephen Ministries.
In her work with the Girl Scouts, she helped girls and adults to develop their appreciation of nature, to look deeper and to see natural things that they might not otherwise see. In addition, she taught many leaders how to take troops camping and trekking on long trips.

LAPS Prevention Office Works With MADD Against Underage Drinking

This week, the Los Alamos Public Schools Prevention Office hosted Mothers Against Drunk Drivers for some community education opportunities with more planned for next week.
Selena Hardy, a 2003 Los Alamos High School graduate and a program specialist for MADD-NM was on hand Tuesday and Wednesday with presentations for parents and hands on activities for youth.

It was the trip of a lifetime. Last November, Los Alamos local Stephen Becker embarked on the National Geographic Explorer ship to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island, and Antarctica.
