Letter To The Editor: Support Expressed For County’s Sheriff And Police Department
In light of recent events, I offer my full fledged support of our County’s Sheriff and Police Department. Thank you for everything you do.
I am jumping into the quagmire of the Sheriff feet first. I am stumped by the amount of vitriol surrounding the elected position that Sheriff Lucero has legitimately won and is in his 2nd term. What could cause a County Council to systematically reduce the role of our Sheriff to virtually nothing and then ask the voters whether they’d like to remove the Office of Sheriff from our town permanently? BETTY JOANNE SIMES June 10, 1934 – July 9, 2016
Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Betty Joanne Simes, 82, of Los Alamos, New Mexico passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 9, 2016.
Betty will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on July 14, 2006 at 9:45 a.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Rivera Funeral Home.
Betty was born in Brownfield, Texas on June 10, 1934. She finished business school and worked for the city of Lubbock, TX. where she met her husband Doyle. Betty and Doyle were married on October 12, 1957 in Los Alamos and were married 59 years.

Letter To The Editor: Not One Person Stopped…
As I write this letter, I still have a bit of dried blood on my hands. A few minutes ago, I came across a man lying on the ground on San Ildefonso Road, covered in blood, his mangled bicycle under him.
Car after car ahead of me drove past this man before I could get to him. I ran out of the car, asked how he was, and tended to him as best I could. His injuries didn’t appear too serious and I tried to mop him up a bit as we waited for the ambulance to arrive. Meanwhile, cars kept passing us. Small Fire Erupts Near Los Alamos Middle School
Fire investigators are at the scene of a small fire that erupted this afternoon on San Ildefonso Road near Camino Duraznillo on North Mesa in Los Alamos.
Fire crews arrived quickly and jumped right on it, Fire Marshal Jeff Wetteland said.
“I watched the fire attack almost from start to finish and the firefighters were real aggressive in putting it out,” Wetteland said moments ago. “We are in extreme fire danger conditions right now, and with this wind, it could have really gotten out of hand.”
