Museum Of Natural History & Science Announces November Education Programs

NMMNHS News:

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS) Education team is continuing its offsite education efforts, with a new slate of free events for all ages and interests during November.

With the museum temporarily closed for a renovation project, NMMNHS educators are bringing natural history into the community with a full slate of public programs in Bernalillo County libraries and community spaces during the fall months through the Natural History in your Neighborhood program.

LAHS 2B Government Class Launches Service Project To Provide Supply Bags To Homeless People

COMMUNITY News:

The Los Alamos High School 2B Government class is doing a service project to provide homeless people with bags filled with supplies and necessities.

These bags are going to give supplies to those in need across New Mexico. The goal for the class is to have two bags per student to give out to people wherever the students travel.

The homeless population is an ever-growing problem as inflation continues to rise.

In hopes of carrying out this service project, the community is asked to donate to help the 2B Government class reach their goal of $800. Read More

Section Of Cañada Del Buey Trail To Temporarily Close For Wildfire Mitigation Beginning Oct. 14

COUNTY News:

For public safety and in coordination with the Los Alamos County Manager’s Office, the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) will temporarily close a section of the Cañada del Buey Trail beginning Tuesday, Oct. 14, for the final phase of its wildfire fuels reduction project.

This marks the third and final phase of LAFD’s ongoing mitigation efforts aimed at reducing fire risk, protecting nearby neighborhoods, and preserving natural landscapes.

EDD Job Training Funds Support 225 More Employees

EDD News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) announced that its   Program (JTIP) will provide up to $2.2 million to 12 companies, supporting training for 225 employees across the state.

JTIP reimburses companies for at least 50% of trainee wages, with higher rates for rural jobs and for hiring recent graduates from New Mexico colleges and universities. JTIP also encourages companies to hire locally from underserved populations. Boundary Fence Repair And Hazard Tree Removal Begins In The Hermit’s Peak Calf Canyon Burned Area

SFNF News:

SANTA FE — Crews will repair boundary fences and remove hazard trees in the Hermit’s Peak Calf Canyon (HPCC) burned area of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) beginning early fall 2025. This project reduces wildfire risk, prevents power outages along the Mora-San Miguel (MSM) Cooperative power line, and keeps livestock out of nearby villages, including San Geronimo, San Pablo, San Ignacio, Las Dispensas, Gallinas, and Cow Creek.

Paul Geimer was the best predictor in Atomic City Road Runner’s (ACRR) final pace race of the 51st season held Tuesday on the Canyon Rim Trail. He was 21 seconds off his predicted time as well as the first finisher on the 3-mile course at 18:39.
