Travel Lane At 20th And Oppenheimer Has Reopened

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Gas Crews finished up at 6 p.m. today and opened the lane at 20th Street to Oppenheimer Drive.

After temporarily closing a section of Trinity Drive, from 20th Street to Oppenheimer Drive, due to gas line break around 2 p.m. today, Trinity Drive is now reopened to traffic.

The section of the Trinity Drive was closed when a New Mexico Department of Transportation contractor inadvertently struck a 4-inch gas line while excavating a sink hole near Ashley Pond.

Traffic Alert: N.M. 502 Near Roundabout Closed Wednesday

Traffic Alert:
As part of the ongoing construction of the new roundabout on the eastern edge of Los Alamos, N.M. 502 will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 6.
This closure by New Mexico Department of Transportation and their contractor Star Paving is necessary for installation of a roadway storm drain and water service crossing.
Arroyo Lane residents will be directed to enter and exit east to Canyon Road.

New Mexico Department Of Transportation Supports Governor’s Order To Shutdown Access To Gallup By Providing Detailed Traffic Control Plan

  • State Police and the Army National Guard will be manning checkpoints.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation has mobilized roadblocks to restrict traffic coming into Gallup in order to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the area.

Gallup is in McKinley County, which now leads New Mexico in COVID-19 cases.

McKinley County includes a corner of the main part of the Navajo Nation, which has been hit hard by the pandemic.

Traffic Alert:

Saturday, May 2, Century Link’s contractor Kelly Cable will install a Fiber Optics Manhole at 4th Street and Central Avenue.

N.M. 502 will be closed 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. between 4th Street and Arroyo Lane.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured to 4th Street to Canyon Road and back onto N.M. 502. 

Westbound traffic will be detoured to Canyon Road, 4th Street, Central Avenue to Knecht Street and back onto N.M. 502.

  • Drivers should expect more motorcyclists on the roads as the weather warms up

SANTA FE – With warmer weather, more motorcyclists will be on the road which is why May is Motorcycle Awareness Month.

A time to remind all drivers to share the road and all motorcyclists to wear helmets and practice other safety measures.

Motorcyclists are 28 percent more likely to die in a crash and five times more likely to be injured than drivers in passenger vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Read More

Traffic Alert:

There will be a flagging operation 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Thursday on N.M. 502 at Sombrillo Court.

The operation is necessary for the contractor, Star Paving, to install fiber optic lines across the roadway, which is part of the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s N.M. 502 Roundabout Project.

N.M. 502 will be closed near the eastern entrance to Los Alamos, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 29.

The closure is needed as part of the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s N.M. 502 Road Reconstruction and Roundabout Project; crews from Star Paving will be installing a gas line across N.M. 502.

Residents living on Arroyo Lane and Verde Ridge Road are advised to enter and exit to the east only while the closure is in place.

East and west bound traffic on N.M. 502 will be detoured Wednesday onto both 4th Street and Canyon Road. Read More
