SPORTS News:

Athletes competed in the Los Alamos Special Olympics Track and Field Meet Saturday at Sullivan Field.

Several volunteers helped work the event and Los Alamos Firefighters also assisted and placed ribbons on athletes at the conclusion of their events.

‘A Dose of Reality’ Campaign Launched To Combat Teen Prescription Painkiller Abuse

SANTA FE  the New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) Office of Substance Abuse Prevention (OSAP) announced Tuesday a new statewide prevention campaign to further combat prescription drug abuse.
 
Called A Dose of Reality, the campaign educates youth and their parents about the serious risks of addiction and overdose from prescription painkiller abuse.

LANL: SOC – IGUA Agree To 60-Day Contract Extension

LANL News:

Los Alamos National Laboratory has announced that the contractor that provides security Protective Force services to the Laboratory, SOC-LA, and the International Guards Union of America Local #69 (IGUA) have agreed to a 60-day contract extension.

Union Protective Force personnel will continue to work as normal during the extension period, so a contingency plan to deploy an augmented Protective Force will not be implemented at this time. WIPP mine rescue teams recently participated in an onsite rescue drill that tested their ability to perform emergency operations in a smoke filled environment.

Donning respiratory masks and oxygen tanks, team members entered a simulated smoke filled room and practiced emergency response procedures and actions that prepare them should a fire occur in the WIPP underground.
