Udall, Heinrich Urge Minimizing Impact Of Data Breach, Improving Security Controls

U.S. SENATE News: 

WASHINGTON, D.C.Wednesday, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich strongly urged the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to take steps to minimize harm to federal employees in New Mexico and across the country who were affected by the recent data breach that resulted in the theft of millions of employees’ personal information.

In a letter to the OPM director, the senators expressed their disappointment with the data breach and called on OPM to take specific actions to improve security controls and prevent cyber theft.

BROOKINGS, S.D.   When it comes to fighting West Nile virus, it’s all about timing.
 
Through a three-year NASA grant, two South Dakota State University researchers will help mosquito control officials use mosquito surveillance and environmental data to target West Nile virus.

FBI: Shiprock Man Sentenced For Federal Theft

ALBUQUERQUE — Orlando Jay Johnson, 24, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Shiprock, has been sentenced in federal court in Albuquerque to 12 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for his conviction on theft occurring in Indian Country.
 
Johnson was arrested Oct. 31, 2014, after officers of the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety were called to a fast food restaurant in Shiprock in response to a report that an elderly Navajo man had been robbed of his wallet and money.

DOE To Assess Groundwater At LANL

In an Environmental Assessment (EA), the Department of Energy proposes to further evaluate, characterize and address chromium contamination in the groundwater beneath Mortandad Canyon at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The proposed action consists of two activities:

  • Chromium Plume Control Interim Measure, would hydraulically control the downgradient migration of the chromium groundwater plume in the regional aquifer.

Udall, Heinrich Announce $365,000 to Prevent Drunk Driving, Improve Traffic Safety

U.S. SENATE News:

WASHINGTON D.C. Thursday, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich announced more than $365,000 for the New Mexico Department of Transportation to help prevent drunk driving and improve safety on New Mexico roads.

The funds will support local safety efforts including sobriety checkpoints, seat belt safety education and enforcement, and ignition interlock programs.
