DOE News:
In an Environmental Assessment (EA), the Department of Energy proposes to further evaluate, characterize and address chromium contamination in the groundwater beneath Mortandad Canyon at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The proposed action consists of two activities:
- Chromium Plume Control Interim Measure, would hydraulically control the downgradient migration of the chromium groundwater plume in the regional aquifer.
- Chromium Plume-Center Characterization, would identify and evaluate the feasibility of potential long-term actions to fully remediate the chromium plume.
Upon completion of the draft EA, the DOE Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA) will announce a 30-day public comment period and details on submitting comments. Additionally, information regarding submittal of comments will be posted to the Chromium Plume Control website.
