LAPS Foundation: ‘Kick COVID’ And Support Students!

LAPS Foundation:

What will school be like this year? That is the question on everyone’s mind. 

The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation is kicking off an urgent fundraising appeal to help Los Alamos Public Schools get students back to school for a successful year of learning in the Fall of 2020.

The Foundation is working closely with LAPS Superintendent Dr. Kurt Steinhaus, as well as teachers and administrators from across the district to understand and address the schools’ needs this fall.

It was a busy weekend for dispatchers and firefighters on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) with the onset of the southwestern monsoon season and the accompanying lightning strikes.

Crews Continue Efforts To Knock Down Quemazon Fire

COUNTY News:

Forest Service crews continue working on the Quemazon Fire with LAFD providing assistance.

Individuals are reminded that entrances to the Quemazon Trail and Pipeline Trail continue to be closed for public safety.

The Los Alamos Reservoir is an active part of fire-fighting efforts underway. 

Members of the public are asked to refrain from visiting Los Alamos Reservoir, as helicopters are resuming water retrieval activities for fire suppression using water from the reservoir. Read More

New Mexico Supreme Court Limits Criminal Investigation Records Shielded From Public Disclosure

SANTA FE — The state Supreme Court Tuesday limited the scope of a provision in state law that shields certain law enforcement records from public disclosure.

In a unanimous decision, the state’s highest court said the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) “does not create a blanket exception from inspection for law enforcement records relating to an ongoing criminal investigation.”

SANTA FE — Attorney General Hector Balderas has announced that the Office of the Attorney General has taken over the prosecution of former Las Cruces Police Department Officer Christopher Smelser, who stands accused of killing Antonio Valenzuela while in his custody.

Catch Of The Week: Twitter’s Big Hack

On Wednesday, July 15, accounts across Twitter began posting the same message: “Send bitcoins to this bitcoin address and you will get back double the bitcoins!”

Initially, tweets claimed to be linked to a fake charity, “Crypto for Health”.

The first wave of tweets went out from smaller Twitter accounts, and then cryptocurrency CEOs.

Then came the second wave – celebrities and politicians with verified Twitter accounts, including Elon Musk, Kanye West, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

New Mexico COVID-19 Cases Now At 16,971 With 2 New Deaths And 6,764 Patients Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 241 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County remains at 14 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update announces 2 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
