DEA Arrests For Fentanyl Surpass Heroin In FY-2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― Arrests by the Drug Enforcement Administration for fentanyl offenses exceeded those for heroin offenses for the first time in fiscal year 2021, according to a new Bureau of Justice Statistics report, Heroin, Fentanyl, and Other Opioid Offenses in Federal Courts, 2021.

During FY 2021, the DEA made 3,138 arrests for fentanyl, 2,591 arrests for heroin and 676 arrests for other opioid offenses. From FY 2020 to FY 2021, there was a 36% increase in arrests made by the DEA for fentanyl and a 29% decrease in arrests for heroin.

FBI: Navajo Man Pleads Guilty To Assault Upon Federal Officer And Assault Resulting In Serious Bodily Injury

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Kenneth Lee Begay pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of assault upon a federal officer inflicting bodily injury and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Begay, 59, of Newcomb, N.M., and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, will remain on conditions of release pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

NMSP Reports Fatal Seven-Car Pileup South Of Roswell

CHAVES COUNTY — At around 2:30 p.m. Feb. 27, 2024, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) was called to investigate a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles on U.S. Highway 285 and the intersection of East Orchard Park Road south of Roswell. 

The initial investigation indicated that a Ford pickup truck, driven by a 46-year-old male, was trying to cross 285 from East Orchard Park Road. LAPD Releases Details Of Accident On Truck Route

          • A 44-year-old male from Santa Fe succumbed to his injuries.

This morning, Feb. 27, 2024, the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) responded to a 9-1-1 call received by the LAPD Consolidated Dispatch Center reporting a three-car accident on N.M. 501/East Jemez Road (Truck Route) near mile marker 7.

LAPD officers arrived on the scene a few minutes later at 7:27 a.m., followed by Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD). Police officers closed the Truck Route for several hours for accident response, clean-up and investigation efforts.

Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Ian Channing Lasiloo pleaded guilty in federal court to using, carrying and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
