NNSA Issues Statement Of Findings For High Explosive Transfer Facility Blast Radius Fence Project At LANL

The Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Los Alamos Field Office has issued a Floodplain Statement of Findings for proposed installation of a three-strand smooth wire fence intended to create an operational boundary between the public and direct access to the High Explosive (HE) Transfer Facility.

The proposed fencing would be installed from a former spur of Anchor Ranch Road to the existing chain link fence north of X-Ray Road. The fence would cross approximately 60 feet of the Pajarito Canyon 100-year floodplain.

Hesperus Ski Area In Colorado Opens Friday

Thanks to recent snowfall in the San Juan Mountains and Durango area, Hesperus Ski Area will open for the 2021/22 ski season at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17 in Hesperus, Colo.

The ski area plans to open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Jan. 1, 2022, including the Hesperus lodge and snack bar, rental shop and ski and ride school.

Hesperus Ski Area also will host a free uphill community ski day beginning today, Dec. 16.

NEW ORLEANS — Global lightning activity dropped almost 8 percent during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns, according to new research being presented at the AGU Fall Meeting. The cause of the drop appears to be a connection between lightning and air pollution.
