It’s been a busy summer and I’ve had a short vacation from writing my column. However, I have been extremely “jewelry” busy in the last two months.

Conditions Are Perfect For UNM-LA Mushroom Hike

The recent rains have made local mountainsides green, wildflowers dot the mesa tops, and the wild mushrooms abundant if one knows where to look.

That’s why UNM-LA Community Education is excited to offer a mushroom hike 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. Experienced mushroom forager Thomas Peña is leading the hike.

“This year’s precipitation is going to be a real boon for the mushrooms,” Peña said. “Normally, the area where we hike is quite green and lush, but this should be a banner year.”

Central Park Square Has Become ‘The Place To Be’

Crowds have been gathering all summer in Central Park Square as seen Thursday with a packed house inside the Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op that spills onto the patio. CPS Owner Philip Kunsberg has been strategic in the types of businesses he is attracting including Unquarked, The Wine Room and Rigoberto’s Mexican Restaurant. Green Chile Comes To Los Alamos Co+op Market

Make space in your freezer because green chile season is here.

The Los Alamos Cooperative Market has organic green chile from Seco Spice in Berino, which is located in the Hatch Valley between Las Cruces and El Paso. Roasting will be done at the Co+op on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays.

Chile can be ordered by the case while supplies last – hopefully through mid-September.  For the Co+op, chile roasting is about community and culture.

Hill Diner and the adjacent building that housed Magistrate Court have sold to a Santa Fe investment group.

The combined property at 1315 and 1319 Trinity Dr. was listed at $549,900 for the two buildings on 0.676 acres; the final sale price has not been disclosed.
